RoadRisk

Find the stretch of road that will hurt a rider, before it does.

RoadRisk turns dashboard camera video into a risk score from 1 to 5 for every 100 m of road. Each score is checked against where crashes really happened. A council gets a colour map and a report that ranks the stretches by how urgently they need fixing.

Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. 972 road segments of 100 m, drawn from open map data. 1 segment carries a recorded motorcycle crash.

Most people who die on these roads were on a motorcycle

Road budgets are small and roads are long. Today a council often learns that a stretch is dangerous only after people die there.

Who it is for

Local councils, public works departments, road agencies and transport departments in Malaysia and Thailand. Anyone who decides which road gets fixed this year.

What a council gets

  1. Record

Drive or ride the roads with a dashboard camera and GPS. No special vehicle.

  2. Split

The route becomes segments of 100 m, so every result points to a place a road crew can find.

  3. Score

Each segment gets a RoadRisk Score from 1 to 5 for the hazards that hurt riders: no motorcycle lane, a sharp drop at the road edge, potholes, U-turn gaps, junctions without traffic lights.

  4. Check

Scores are compared with the places where serious and fatal crashes really happened.

  5. Report

A colour map and a report in Malay, English or Thai, ranked by how urgently each stretch needs fixing.
